The Arri Alexa 35 Xtreme, born from the Alexa 35, is a camera capable of recording up to 660 fps and introduces ARRICORE, a codec that halves the data rate of ARRIRAW without compromising quality.

The ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme takes image capture to the next level with its high-speed recording capabilities:
In comparison, when shooting in 4.6K Open Gate, the ALEXA 35 reached up to 75 fps, while the Xtreme raises this figure to 120 fps. Previously, shooting in 3.8K 8K or UHD 16:9 allowed recording at 120 fps — now it’s 150 fps. And the Super 16 recording mode, which offered 120 fps on the ALEXA 35, now achieves 330 fps on the Xtreme.
Additionally, the ALEXA 35 Xtreme introduces a new 3.8K sensor format with a Cinemascope 2.39:1 aspect ratio, capable of reaching up to 240 fps — ideal for productions requiring a widescreen aesthetic combined with high-speed recording.

The ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme’s ‘Sensor Overdrive’ mode enables maximum recording speeds and is specifically designed for scenarios requiring extreme slow motion. This mode prioritises speed by sacrificing certain image parameters: the camera’s dynamic range is reduced from 17 to 11 stops, and the base sensitivity increases to EI 1600 from the native ISO 800.
With “Sensor Overdrive” mode activated, speed increases are achieved across formats: in 4.6K Open Gate, recording jumps from 120 fps to 165 fps; in 3.8K 16:9 or UHD, speed rises from 150 fps to 240 fps; and in Super 16 2K format, it reaches an astonishing 660 fps — the highest frame rate ever offered by an ARRI camera.
This mode is only available when recording with the ARRICORE codec. While REVEAL Colour Science remains intact, this mode requires careful exposure settings and is recommended exclusively for controlled lighting environments, ensuring optimal results under specific conditions.”
ArriCore
ARRICORE is ARRI’s new codec.
It is an RGB codec, not RAW, but it allows for white balance and exposure index or ISO adjustments in post-production.
It is a compressed codec, with roughly half the data rate of ARRIRAW, but it uses an entirely new compression method that delivers high image quality in a 13-bit MXF file.
The new ARRICORE format achieves exceptional image quality while also enabling the highest possible speeds on the Alexa 35 Xtreme.

With ARRIRAW, you get the highest image quality in the industry — virtually the standard for top-tier productions. It’s a codec that is uncompressed and unencrypted.
Apple ProRes is one of the most widely used codecs on the market, offering excellent 12-bit image quality with the ALEXA 35 Xtreme.

Reveal Color Science
The ALEXA 35 Xtreme features Reveal Colour Science, delivering far more accurate colours with much subtler tonal variations. It captures highly saturated colours — such as neon lights or car brake lights — with striking realism, and also handles traditionally challenging hues like cyan, burgundy, and pastel tones with exceptional precision.
