Sensor
5.9K Full Frame CMOS Sensor, with support for Super 35mm and Super 16mm crop modes
The Cinema EOS C500 Mark II features Canon’s high-resolution 5.9K (38.1 x 20.1mm) Full Frame CMOS sensor, which offers exceptional low noise and a broad range of tonality with over 15 stops of dynamic range.
The sensor’s expansive native cinema gamut goes beyond that of current standards, including ITU-R BT.2020 and DCI-P3, helping the EOS C500 Mark II achieve more natural skin tones and allowing for greater freedom in color grading in both SDR and HDR productions.
The Full Frame sensor is capable of capturing footage in a wide variety of aspect formats, including DCI-4K, UHD and Anamorphic Widescreen. The Cinema EOS C500 sensor supports both anamorphic and spherical lenses.
In addition to full-frame, the sensor can also be paired with conventional Super 35mm and Super 16mm lenses using appropriate sensor crop modes, lens mount and adapter.
Anamorphic lens support
EOS C500 Mark II supports anamorphic lenses by electronically de-squeezing the image in the viewfinder and on connected monitors for viewing.
Users can take advantage of the camera’s full 5.9K resolution by using 1.3x squeeze anamorphic lenses. Popular 2x squeeze anamorphic lenses (that cover a native 1.2:1 aspect ratio on the sensor) can be used as well, using a 4:3 cropped area of the sensor.
Recording
High quality and efficient recording formats
The EOS C500 Mark II features a newly developed DIGIC DV 7 image processor which enables Cinema RAW Light recording internally at 5.9K, as well as supporting recording of Canon’s XF-AVC format in 4K 4:2:2 10-bit.
Simultaneous recording of the same file format is possible to the dual CFexpress card slots, with an additional SD card slot for proxy files.
This multi-recording format provides efficiency and fulfils production requirements.
High frame rates
The EOS C500 Mark II supports high frame rate recordings up to a maximum 50/60 fps at 5.9K. In 2K (crop) mode, settings from 1fps to a maximum 120fps can also be made, increasing creative possibilities.
The Slow & Fast button gives quick access for Slow & Fast settings.
Body
Compact, lightweight and reliable
With approximately 1,75 Kg, this lightweight body enables it to be comfortably rigged with gimbals, hand-held rigs, making it ideal for various shooting conditions.
Various mount and lens options
The EOS C500 Mark II provides support for optional interchangeable lens mounts for different project requirements.
EF lens mount provides perfect compatibility with a huge range of Canon EF lenses including EF Cine Primes, while the optional PL mount supports the Cooke /i system.
Electronics
Pioneering Auto Focus technology
The EOS C500 Mark II features Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology which offers high-speed Continuous AF.
Users also benefit from smooth, intuitive touch focus operation with the new 4.3-inch LCD monitor LM-V2, as well as an improved focus control that recreates a more natural focus pull.
To further fine tune AF performance, the EOS C500 Mark II offers the ability to set the AF tracking speed and response.
Electronic IS
EOS C500 Mark II incorporates Electronic Image Stabilization (IS) into the camera body, supporting 5-axis camera shake correction.
Even when used with lenses with no electronic lens communication, Electronic IS is possible by manually inputting the focal length.
