Origin and inspiration
Zeiss Aatma are full-frame optics with a personality of their own.
Inspired by the character of classics such as the Super Speed and the 1970s ZEISS Contax lenses, they are not simply a vintage “rehousing,” but a new optical design that reinterprets that aesthetic: soft, flattering skin tones; rich bokeh with subtle “soap bubble” and cat’s eye effects toward the edges; and restrained contrast that adds character without sacrificing color consistency or the precision of a modern set.
Aatma Look
Zeiss Aatma lenses offer an organic alternative to the clinical perfection of modern lenses, prioritizing texture and naturalness.
Their design is characterized by slightly lower contrast and a versatile softness that renders skin tones exceptionally well, maintaining the necessary detail but with a more human finish.
The background doesn’t simply dissolve into a flat blur; instead, it integrates through bokeh with subtle “soap bubble” edges and a “cat’s eye” shape toward the edges of the frame.
