Test footage images shot with Leitz Hugo, Leitz Elsie, and Leitz Prime

They are small, bright, and lightweight lenses; designed to focus as close as possible, while retaining all the personality of the Leica M lens glass, creating character in every capture.

Leitz Hugo origin

The Leitz Hugo lenses are named in honour of Hugo Wehrenfennig, a distinguished engineer who worked for Leica Camera.

Wehrenfennig was responsible for creating the iconic Leica M bayonet mount, which is still in use today, along with many of the early M-series lenses.

Hugo Look

The Leitz Hugo lenses stand out for their exceptional optical quality, offering rich colours that allow for capturing scenes with great chromatic fidelity.

Additionally, they add a creative touch thanks to their flares and a rounded image field, which contributes to a unique aesthetic, especially at the corners of the image where they can show a noticeable drop in illumination, focus, and resolution, allowing subjects to stand out more.

Moreover, they maintain impressive sharpness even at their wide apertures of T1.5, with a smooth contrast that provides a natural fall-off.

Its bokeh softens details and creates blurred backgrounds, accentuating the separation between the subject and the environment.
